The Max Planck Institute for Ornithology (MPIO) is an internationally renowned research institution with more than 200 employees working in four departments and seven research groups. The department of Behavioral Neurobiology (Gahr) at the MPIO Seewiesen campus invites applications for 1 postdoctoral or advanced researcher in full-time to study the neurophysiology of bird song and song perception.



We look for a colleague to study neural correlates of singing birds by means of telemetric techniques. Songbirds are a well-established model for the study of vocal learning and of hormone-dependent behavioral plasticity and their underlying neuronal mechanisms. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and work well both within a team and independently. Holding a PhD in science, you have a strong background in neurophysiology and an interest in behavioral biology. Next to the research, you shall be involved in the supervision of PhD students and in the coordination of technical developments.You can expect a highly motivated interdisciplinary international team and outstanding scientific environment. You have access to animal keeping and flight rooms in Seewiesen as well as to standard in-vivo physiology and telemetric recording technology. Payment and benefits are according to the German TVöD depending on personal qualifications. There will be further social benefits according to the provision of the public sector.The position is available immediately for a period of three plus two years.
