For our project on “Behavioural determinates and consequences of the natural spread
of a sexually transmitted disease in wild olive baboons (Papio anubis)”

The German Primate Center GmbH – Leibniz-Institute for Primate Research in Göttingen is a
primate research and competence center that does basic research. It concentrates on three
main areas named Organismic Primate Biology, Infections Research and Neurosciences.
The DPZ maintains three field stations to do research on and with primates. Furthermore it is
one of 89 research and infrastructure establishments of the Leibniz-Institute

1 PhD position (65% TVL 13) in Biology or Veterinary Science

Within the DFG Research Unit (Forschergruppe) “ Sociality and Health in Primates (SoHa-
Pi)”. The position is intended to start on November, 1st 2014, and is awarded for 3 years. The
position is based at the German Primate Center, Göttingen and interconnected with the
Georg-August-University, Göttingen (Biology) or Tierärztliche Hochschule, Hannover (Veterinary
Science) respectively. The Research Unit in general investigates the relationship of infectious
diseases and the evolution of social systems in nonhuman primates. The Research
Unit aims for scientific excellence and involves internationally recognized research institutes
in Göttingen, Leipzig, and Berlin. Partners in countries of primate origin in Africa and Asia
make a substantial part of the consortium.
