€œAnthropogenic influence on resource subsidies from freshwater to terrestrial ecosystems€

The Faculty 7: Natural and Environmental Sciences invites applications for a PhD scholarship at the Institute for Environmental Sciences at the Campus Landau/Pfalz, Germany. The scholarship is for up to 3 years and will be 1100  per month (tax free).

The PhD study investigates fluxes of organisms from freshwater to terrestrial ecosystems with a special emphasis on how anthropogenic stressors may lead to a decoupling. The study combines field investigations with experiments in artificial stream microcosms. The candidate is expected to develop, conduct, analyze and publish the results. The study is funded by the Research Initiative of Rhineland Palatinate, which involves 5 groups investigating aquatic-terrestrial interactions. The PhD candidate will have access to state of the art equipment and will work within the young and interdisciplinary team of researchers at the Institute for Environmental Sciences. Given the interdisciplinary nature of the research, the Phd study will be supervised by different working groups (Landscape Ecology, Ecosystem Analysis, Community Limnology).

The successful candidate holds a degree (M.Sc, Diploma) in a relevant field (e.g., ecology, environmental sciences, landscape ecology), has expertise in some or all of the following topics: freshwater and terrestrial entomology, stable isotope analysis, food webs, insect emergence and autecological studies on insect dispersal. She/he is fluent in English language, very motivated, able to work independently, interested in interdisciplinary research at the interface between freshwater and terrestrial ecosystem functions and has the necessary practical skills to conduct field work and laboratory analyses (taxonomic identification, stable isotope analysis). She/he has a car driving license.
