Moreover, we offer Master’s programmes in Aquaculture and Marine Ecology, and a PhD programme in Aquatic Biosciences.

FBA aims to be a leading international arena in the High North for education, research and knowledge dissemination in aquaculture and marine ecology, fostered by a unique genomic platform and characterized by strong interaction between the disciplines. The Faculty possesses new, state-of-the-art laboratory facilities and operates a Research Station about 10 minutes from campus. About the PhD fellowship
FBA is currently inviting applications for a three-year PhD fellowship affiliated with the Strategic Research Group Aquaculture. The successful candidate will join the developmental biology & reproduction research unit. The proposed PhD research aims to improve the knowledge on the early developmental biology of wolf fish by focusing on feed, nutrition and digestive capacity, thereby contributing to the production of robust and healthy juveniles.

Spotted wolfish is a new and promising species for aquaculture in Norway. Optimal feed and feeding regimes is important to ensure a robust fish with good growth performance, normal organ development and strong disease resistance. The knowledge on nutritional requirements in wolfish is limited, and the function and development of the digestive system is only partly known. Testing of alternative formulated diets including growth and health promoting feed ingredients will be an important part of the work. Short and long-term effects of these alternative feeds, feed additives and feeding regimes will be evaluated as robustness in terms of survival rate, growth performance and disease resistance.

Qualifications and requirements
The candidate should hold a Master of Science degree (or equivalent) in marine fish larval nutrition in one of the following fields:
• Functional feed ingredients
• Digestive physiology
• Developmental biology
• Nutritional biochemistry

Experience in marine hatchery operations and fish larvae experiments will be advantageous for the position.

The grades at the qualifying MS examination needs to be C or better (ECTS scale from A-E,
A being the best grade). Good communication skills in English, both oral and written, are required. English proficiency should be certified by internationally recognized examination/test such as TOEFEL, IELTS, APIEL or similar.

The position requires a highly motivated and systematic candidate capable of working independently and in teams.
The successful candidate will join the PhD programme in Aquatic Biosciences at the University of Nordland and is expected to complete a doctorate within the three-year project period. The candidate should fulfill the admission requirements of the aforementioned PhD programme at the Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture, and participate in the training components stipulated in regulations of the PhD program. Application for admission to the programme must be submitted within three months after taking up the position. For admission requirements and regulations, see our web page.
