Leuven, Belgium: cross-national survey on scientific misconduct PDF Tisk Email

Scientific misconduct has been existing for years and until today it occurs frequently and to a great extent in various research fields. It is an important issue that needs to be addressed, because the consequences of scientific misconduct are tremendous; ranging from serious harm that is done to people, significant misuse of scarce resources and the fraudulent creation of “new” research directions that can mislead scientists for years.

Research on scientific misconduct indicates that up to a third of today's scientist engage in questionable research practices to improve results and increase their chances to publish. The academic system and its funding sector, underwent significant changes within the last decade and it has been suggested that these changes have led to an increased occurrence of scientific misconduct, partly due to increased financial pressures on researchers.

The present cross-national study aims to investigate the links between different academic systems and the occurrence of scientific misconduct within and across different countries. The survey will take no longer than 3 minutes to complete and we appreciate your participation. Participation is completely anonymous and answers will be recoded by the program so that the researcher has no possibility to link answers to certain participants.  Please, proceed to the survey if you consent to take part. Participation is voluntary and you can withdraw at any time.
