The Zoologisches Forschungsmuseum Alexander Koenig (ZFMK) in Bonn (http://www.zfmk.de), Germany, seeks to fill the position of a curator for mammals. The position is available as of January 2015. Potential candidates will hold a PhD in zoology or related areas, have their research focus on systematics and biodiversity of mammals, and present a substantial publication record in taxonomy and biodiversity research. He/she should be able to combine collection-based work with field work, population genetics, monitoring at species level, and/or morphological research. The candidate is also expected to integrate into ongoing research projects at the ZFMK and teaching programmes at the University of Bonn and to be successful in raising external funds.

The successful candidate will be active in research projects and will be responsible as a curator for caring, managing and further increasing and developing the substantial collections in the ZFMK. He/she will also be involved in the administrative duties for the institute. The candidate is also expected to demonstrate commitment to community engagement in his/her field of research.

The successful candidate will be employed for an initial period of up to three years after which he/she will obtain tenure depending on his/her performance. Salary corresponds to grade TV-L/13 in the German Public Service scheme.

The ZFMK is a fellow institute of the Leibniz Association and works in close cooperation with the University of Bonn. It includes internationally important scientific collections, libraries, as well as electron microscopy, histological and molecular laboratories. Bonn is an attractive university town, widely recognized for its high quality of life, lively culture and arts scene, easy access to natural areas paired with close proximity to large cities like Cologne and Düsseldorf. Costs of living are moderate, and there are many convenient public transportation or bicycle path options.
