Curator/ University Lecturer in Vertebrate Palaeontology (Tenure Track Position). We seek to recruit an outstanding scientist to join the staff of the Department and Museum of Zoology at Cambridge.

The successful candidate will combine excellence in research with a commitment to teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition he/she will have the ability to engage with the work of the Museum in collections development, outreach and public engagement. We seek a candidate with the ambition and ability to fund and lead a world-class research group. For this post, we are likely to appoint a candidate whose research is collections-based. The appointee will take overall academic responsibility for the vertebrate palaeontology collections, working with professional collections management staff, who will undertake the routine management of the collections. The selection criteria for this post are Essential

  • An outstanding research record, documented by publication and by the demonstrated ability to attract research funding.
  • An innovative and focused research agenda in vertebrate palaeontology.
  • Experience of working with Museum collections, and an engagement with the process of biological and, when appropriate, geological curation.
  • The training and expertise to contribute broadly to undergraduate teaching in the area of vertebrate evolutionary biology.

Desirable

  • Curatorial experience in a major research museum.
  • Taxonomic expertise relating to an area relevant to the Museum's existing collections.
  • A programme of research that will enhance and develop the collections of the Museum.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching undergraduates and supervising research students.
  • A track record of commitment to wider responsibilities in a current or previous institution (for example, in research leadership, museum development, or public engagement).


The duties and responsibilities of this post will be:

  • To conduct research in some area of Vertebrate Evolutionary Biology and Palaeontology.
  • To teach undergraduate and graduate students in Evolutionary Biology and related disciplines.
  • To take curatorial responsibility for the vertebrate palaeontology collections.
  • To promote outreach and public engagement

Appointment will be from 1st Oct 2015, with some possibility for flexibility. 
Appointment will be for a probationary period of five years with appointment to the retiring age thereafter, subject to satisfactory performance.The Department would particularly welcome applications from women as we have an historical imbalance in the number of women holding academic staff positions.
