The Leibniz Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) based in Dummerstorf near Rostock, Germany is a foundation under public law and member of the scientific community Gottfried-Wilhelm Leibniz. The scope of the institute with about 300 employees is basic and practical research in the area of biology for farm animals.
The Institute of Genetics and Biometry in co-operation with the Institute of Behavioural Physiology is offering a
PhD Position starting now for three years. The salary is according to Tarifvertrag der Länder (TV-L) up to pay grade 13 (50 %).
Reference number: 2015-02 Description: The applicant should contribute to the junior research group âPhenotyping of animal welfareâ while pursuing his/her own qualification (PhD degree). The junior research group consists of bioinformaticians and behavioural biologists. The main research topic of the group is the establishment of a knowledge platform to connect animal behavior, methods for the evaluation of behavior, and the molecular biological background of behavior. The research aim is the creation and validation of a list of animal-based, practically applicable markers that may evaluate animal welfare. Requirements:
- University degree (MSc-level) in biology, veterinary medicine, agricultural sciences, or any related discipline
- Willingness to work with farm animals (pigs and cattle)
- Knowledge in (farm animal) ethology and/ or animal physiology
- Good knowledge in experiment design and statistics
- Proficiency in English, spoken as well as written
- Personal initiative, capability for teamwork, and independent working style within this highly interdisciplinary junior research group
