As a Federal Research Institute and independent higher Federal Authority under the Federal Ministry for Food and Agriculture, the work of the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut (FLI) focusses on the health, nutrition, housing, genetic diversity, and welfare of farm animals.

At the Institute for Animal Welfare and Husbandry in Celle, Germany, a 3-year position (50 %) is available for a

Research Assistant (PhD-student)

The employment will be based on the Federal Civil Service Act (TVöD) and the salary will refer to class E 13 (West).

Within the FLI-research project â€Effects of selection for high laying performance on adaptation capacity in the domestic fowl” the successful candidate will have the followingresponsibilities:

Responsibilities:

§   Planning, conduction and analysis of experiments on behavioural responses towards environmental challenges

§   Planning, conduction and analysis of behavioural experiments on cognition and motivation

§   Coordination of the experiments with those of other collaborating institutes of FLI

§  Presentation of the results at international conferences and publishing in international peer- reviewed journals

Requirements:

§   Master (of Sciences) or equivalent in Biology, Agricultural sciences or Veterinary medicine

§   Interest in learning behaviour

§   Readiness to conduct behavioural experiments with laying hens

§   Interest to participate in an interdisciplinary research project

§   Driver licence (class B)
