We are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate to study the evolution of pheromone communication in Leptopilina wasps, parasitoids of Drosophila larvae. For this we will use methods of analytical chemistry (GC-MS, headspace techniques, thermal desorption GC) in combination with behavioral experiments and a molecular phylogeny. The position (65% TV-L E13) is funded by the DFG and limited to three years.

The group “Parasitoids of Drosophila” is headed by Dr. Johannes Stökl and part of the Chemical Ecology Group at the University of Regensburg (Prof. Dr. Joachim Ruther). We have long-term experience in insect chemical ecology and offer well equipped laboratories in a motivating and friendly working atmosphere. For more information please visit our website (http://www.uni-regensburg.de/biologie-vorklinische-medizin/chemische-oekologie/index.html).

Candidates should be highly interested in chemical ecology, entomology, and animal behavior and have to hold a university degree (diploma or master) in biology or a related field. Experience in molecular biology and/or analytical chemistry is highly appreciated.

The successful candidate has to participate in the structured PhD training program of the Regensburg International Graduate School of Life Sciences (RIGeL, http://www.rigel-regensburg.de/). The program aims to train students in scientific methodology and thinking as well as soft skills like self-confidence, discipline, tolerance, and responsibility.

Please send your application until October 15, 2015, containing a curriculum vitae along with names, e-mail addresses and telephone numbers of two referees, preferably electronically, to:
